The light cruiser Yubari was designed to incorporate the firepower of a 5,500 ton cruiser in a compact 3,100 ton form and featured many innovations that garnered it much attention both within the Japanese Navy and abroad. It had a large flared forecastle as well as two funnels trunked into one, features which went on to influence the design of other Japanese navy ships. She fought bravely in many actions in the Pacific, including the Battle of Savo Island, but this kit depicts the ship as she appeared in 1944 with additional AA armament.
